Background Investigator (No Experience Necessary) (Former Investigators with Aged Experience over 3 years)

1FORCE is seeking Independent Contractors for positions located nationwide to conduct personnel security background investigations in a contractor capacity in support of our client's contracts with the federal government.  These positions are not contingent offers, 1FORCE has work available immediately.

Primary Duties:

The primary duty of investigators includes, but is not limited to, conducting background investigations for the purpose of determining employment suitability of persons who require access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.  Investigators will conduct face-to-face interviews with the subject of investigation, neighbors, employers, colleagues, friends, and family members.  Investigators will also conduct record searches to support components of the investigations.  Record searches can be conducted at police agencies, courthouses, educational institutions, financial institutions, employment locations, and medical/mental health facilities.  Investigators will compile narrative based reports of investigation encompassing all relevant information into a clear and concise report of investigation on a government provided computer and network system.

Work Environment:

Investigators are typically expected to work within a 50-mile radius of their home location/primary work location.  The position is based from home, with remote supervision, however, day to day investigations are in person and require commuting travel.  As an independent contractor, pay is based on work tasks /activities performed and provided on a weekly basis.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Preferred candidate qualifications include one or more of the following though not required:

  • Prior work conducting federal personnel security background investigations
  • Prior federal personnel security clearance investigations experience
  • Candidates with an active background investigation and or recent Secret, Top Secret, or SCI clearance

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Four (4) years of progressive work experience or a Bachelor’s Degree
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance (includes an investigation of 10+ years of residence, education, employment, financial, medical and personal information)
  • Ability to pass a post-offer drug test (upon request)
  • Ability to participate in all training requirements (see below)
  • Access to a personally owned vehicle for daily transportation
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work within strict government deadlines
  • Professional appearance and conduct and ability to interact with a broad spectrum of individuals
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Computer/Keyboarding proficiencies – typing, Microsoft Word, email, and internet navigation proficiencies

Training Requirements:

Investigators who do not have prior investigative experience or qualifying federal personnel security clearance investigations experience (documented training per National Training Standards) within the most recent 3 years will be required to complete a New Investigator Training (NIT) course.  NIT courses are inclusive of a 5-week virtual training course followed by 2 weeks of on-the-job training.

NIT course/classroom instruction is conducted in an all-virtual environment.  Participants are required to attend up to 2 daily webinars held live with trainers via the Zoom platform.

 As you transition into an independent work environment, additional training may be provided as needed through learning modules and mentoring to further your investigative skills.

Summary of Independent Contractor Position:

Independent Contractor (IC) investigators will run their own business (1099 wage earner) and contract with 1FORCE directly to conduct background investigations in support of the federal field investigations contract.

Successful IC’s are composed of a wide variety of work and life experiences and a diverse spectrum of backgrounds.  Examples of individuals who have become team members include:

  • Retired/recently separated military and federal employees
  • Professional business owners (Insurance, Real Estate, etc.)
  • Retired professionals (e.g. educators, law enforcement, first responders, etc.)
  • Military Spouses
  • Current and recent college students/graduates
  • Working parents

Required documentation will include (but is not limited to):

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Proof of Insurance (Liability and Vehicle)
  • Business/personal bank account information (as applicable for payment to IC)
  • Completed Federal W-9 form

Pay/compensation information:

  • As an IC, pay is provided by the work product completed and not on an hourly or salaried basis
  • As a 1099 contractor, IC’s are obligated by law to file all required personal / business taxes
  • Mileage and travel expenses are at the expense of the IC and considered a part of your business expenses/costs

 

 

General Information:

  • Work is selected and scheduled to the IC with the ability to accept or reject work (within contract parameters)
  • Work is based from a home office with fieldwork conducted at required locations to account for the activities of the subject of investigation (this is not a telephonic based investigative position)
  • IC investigators are not restricted from performance of similar or other services for third parties
  • Work assignments are required to be completed within government stipulated time, quality and proficiency levels
  • Work that does not meet minimum government proficiency levels will be corrected at the expense of the IC
